The Main Building was constructed from 1950 to 1953 to accommodate the Dominion Bureau of Statistics and has 17 different roof areas comprised of three different roofing types, all differing in vintage and condition. The use of autoclave aerated concrete (AAC) roof decks is prevalent in the construction. Upon the completion of a feasibility study and a business case, select roofs were approved for replacement and other roofs were approved for repair.
Roof areas A1, B1, B2, B3, C2, and D3 are to be replaced Repair works on the balance of the roofs such as correcting membrane wrinkles, ridges and blisters plus removing sources of vegetative growth will be completed. Roof B4 is not included in this project scope and roof C4 will be replaced under separate contract.
This work involves the removal and replacement of selected roof assemblies with new, including thermal insulation. Repairs on roof areas with observed deficiencies.
