The Carling Campus, at 60 Moodie Drive, has two water main feeds into the site; a north feed from Carling Ave. and Moodie Dr., and a south feed from the south ring road and Carling Ave. Both these lines are fed from the 400mm “dead ended” Moodie Dr. main. The Moodie main is supplied by the City of Ottawa grid from the 400mm Corkstown Rd. main. Therefore, the site is essentially supplied from a single main.
The purpose of this project is to prepare a Hydraulic Analysis Report (HAR) at Carling Campus to support design and implementation of a redundant water service. The redundancy will be achieved through the extension of the City of Ottawa water main at the intersection of Carling and Moodie to the west until a loop connection of significant capacity can be achieved.
The Carling Campus site at 60 Moodie Drive is currently occupied by twelve interconnected buildings, associated parking lots, a maintenance compound for landscaping equipment and vehicles, the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre, recreational fields, forested lands, ponds and wetlands. The land comprises approximately 150 ha, of which 27.3 ha is owned by PSPC. The remainder is leased from the National Capital Commission (NCC). It was identified in an investigation and report completed by a third party that if the singular water main were to fail at one of the two entry point it would cause Carling Campus to lose the supply of water service to operate the campus.
